Alderney's waters are widely recognized by academia and the renewable energy industry as being one of the most promising sites for large scale tidal stream development within Europe.
A leading Tidal Power equipment developer has estimated that Alderney's waters are capable of harvesting 1GW of power. Other industry and academic estimates for Alderney's waters are higher at up to 3GW.
As part of the development of the Alderney Project, ARE is managing a detailed survey programme to fully understand the nature of possible site environments and the tidal resource within them.
